Charlie Pride became the first Black singer with the Grand Old Opry.

1968

The first Black woman to have her own weekly television series was Diahann Carroll.

1970

Jacob Lawrence was the first artist to win the NAACPs Spingarn Medal.

1971

Isaac Hayes became the first African-American to win a Music Oscar for best original song for his theme from "Shaft."
