| Photographer Lou Jones, and his assistant, prepare
to photograph materials for a Black History Month calendar being developed by Aetna. Each
month of the calendar will focus on an Historically Black College or University. The
Howard University page will feature an array of items representative of life on the
campus, including artifacts and historical photographs from the Center, a varsity jacket,
Greek fraternity pins, and University souvenirs.

| This is the bible presented to the
Moorland-Spingarn Research Center by Emperor Haile Selassie I during his visit to Howard
University in 1954. It was exhibited at the Enlightenment Reasoning on Rastafari II,
a program commemorating the 70th anniversary of the coronation of Emperor Selassie.
Rastafari III, a program commemorating the 71st
anniversary was held at the Blackburn Center, Howard University, from October 30 through
November 1, 2000.

Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.E.A.O.N.M.S.), John Alston, Chief Rabban of Mecca
Temple #10 of Washington, makes an annual monetary contribution to MSRC. Director Thomas
C. Battle accepts the check for $1,000. Known as the Shriners, this organization
established its archives at the Center in 1975. Since then a delegation of Shriners has
made annual visits to reaffirm the organizations distinctive support of African
American history and culture. Financial contributions now total over $125,000. The
A.E.A.O.N.M.S. Archives, presently consisting of over 170 linear feet of materials dating
back to 1893, is one of the oldest organizational archives in the collections of the
Center.
