Dr. Robert J. Cummings is Professor and Chairman of
the Department of African Studies at Howard University. A leading expert on Africa, he was
the first African American president of the African Studies Association. His most recent
publication is titled The Lagos Plan of Action vs. The Berg Report:
Contemporary Issues in African Economic Development. |

Jeffrey John Fearing has been a medical
photographer at the Howard University College of Medicine since 1972, and has been an active freelance photographer since
1968. A photo-documentarian and urban landscape photographer, his photos have been
exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution and elsewhere and published in numerous books and
periodicals. He continues his research into the history of African-American photographers and
filmmakers as a doctoral candidate in History at Howard University.
