Alexander T. Augusta, M.D.4

     During 1868-1876, Dr. Augusta taught in the Medical Department. His subject areas were "Practical Anatomy," "Descriptive and Surgical Anatomy," and "Descriptive Microscopial and Surgical Anatomy." Professor Augusta was also a "Clinical Lecturer on Diseases of the Skin." Dr. Augusta was one of the University’s earliest African American faculty members.

Brigadier General George W. Balloch5

     During 1867-1876, General Balloch was a member of the Howard University Board of Trustees. He was Treasurer and Secretary of the Board from 1867 to 1871.

John B.G. Baxter, M.D. 6

     Dr. Baxter was a professor in the Howard University Medical Department. He taught "Principles and Practice of Medicine" during the period 1874-1876.

John A. Cole7

     During 1868-1971, John A. Cole was a member of the Howard University Board of Trustees. He served as Financial Agent of the Board during 1868-1870 and was the Board’s Secretary from 1868 to 1871.

Neil F. Graham, M.D.8

     Dr. Graham was a member of the Howard University medical faculty during 1873-1876. He taught "Principles and Practice of Surgery."

Brigadier General Charles Howard9

     From 1867 to 1876, General Howard was a member of the Howard University Board of Trustees.

Major General Oliver Otis Howard10

     During 1867-1876, General Howard was a member of the Howard University Board of Trustees. He was the third president of the University, serving from 1869 to 1873. Along with General Eliphalet Whittlesey, General Howard negotiated the acquisition of the land on which the University was built.
