The following resources will be required to complete this assignment:

  1. Research by students, who will be assisted by the teacher, and copies of necessary materials from the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University.
  2. Access to suggested reference books, encyclopedias, and other informational materials relating to African American women in education.
  3. Internet access and use of word processing programs, such as Microsoft Word and Word Perfect.

Provide a short introduction to the Internet ensuring that students are familiar with the World Wide Web. Also, give brief instructions on using Microsoft Word and Word Perfect programs.

Divide the students into small groups of about 3-5 participants each. Make each person responsible for a particular aspect of the assignment, i.e., develop the time line, gather biographical information, collect photographs and other materials, record data on index cards, input final research findings on the computer, or give an oral multi-media presentation. The teacher will meet with each group to help them decide tasks assignments. Students will be encouraged to volunteer for tasks.

Each student will be given an opportunity to design a cover for the classroom booklet. A vote by students will determine which cover will be used. The cover will be computer generated or done as a freehand design.
